Ciesco advises the shareholders of Lemz, one of Europe’s most-awarded creative independent agencies, on the sale of their business to Havas Group

Ciesco Group is pleased to announce the successful completion of its latest transaction, advising the shareholders of Lemz, one of Europe’s leading independent and most awarded full-service agencies, on the sale of their business to Havas Group, (HAV:EN; market cap of €3.0bn), one of the world’s largest global communication groups.

Founded in 2000, Amsterdam-based Lemz is widely considered a thought leader on pro-social marketing, helping brands “make sense” by delivering creative campaigns that are meaningful, purpose-driven and socially relevant, dedicating their talents to clients such as Ikea, Nederlandse Loterij, health insurer CZ, Greenchoice, pension fund PFZW and Hallmark. Their unique creative consulting approach and world-renowned output has won them numerous awards – at the Cannes Festival of Creativity in 2014 they ranked second globally in the “Best Independent Agency of the Year” category, winning 13 Gold Lions, 1 Silver Lion, and the Cannes Grand Prix for Good. Some of their high-profile campaigns, such as the globally acclaimed Sweetie campaign against online child abuse, received worldwide press coverage from global news outlets such as the BBC, CNN and Sky News.

Havas Group is one of the world’s largest global communication groups, employing 20,000 people in over 100 countries. Havas is committed to being the world’s best company at creating meaningful connections between people and brands through creativity, media and innovation. Lemz will join forces with Havas Boondoggle, the Group’s existing Amsterdam-based creative agency, to create “Havas Lemz”, a combined 80 talent-strong agency led by Willem van der Schoot, CEO of Lemz, that will leverage on the Group’s Together strategy to build a creative hub from which impactful integrated creativity can be delivered.

Chris Sahota, CEO at Ciesco Group who advised the Lemz shareholders on the transaction, commented: “We are delighted to have worked with a leading business as innovative and forward thinking as Lemz, supporting them in their ambition to operate on a bigger scale and increase their global impact through pro-social creativity. I have no doubt that this transaction has all the makings of being a cornerstone for Havas’s global advertising being managed out of Europe.”

Willem van der Schoot, Lemz’s CEO, further added: “Ciesco’s strategic, financial and operational advice was highly valued throughout the process. Their understanding of our vision and strategic goals was crucial in securing us the right partner. In Havas we found the perfect fit in terms of vision, ambition, making sense and chemistry.”

Ciesco Group acted as the exclusive advisor to the shareholders of Lemz.
